Library Reopening Guidelines and Protocols

The library will reopen to current Columbia College faculty, staff, and students on July 7th. Appointments will be required prior to entering the library and appointments will be available three days a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11am until 3pm.

Appointments can be booked through our appointment booking system. Use the ‘Ask a Librarian’ chat or email, for assistance with placing an appointment request and/or an item request.

Appointments will be needed in order to:

  • Check out library materials.
    • Librarians will retrieve items for patrons. If you would like to check out a book, CD, DVD, or other item, you will need to request that the item be put on hold prior to making an appointment. You can place a request for a local hold through the library catalog.
    • In order to facilitate contactless check-outs, requested items will be placed on a hold shelf on the first floor of the library. Faculty, staff, and students will use a self-scan station next to the service desk in order to check out items.
  • Use a computer. There is a two-hour limit on computer usage.
  • Use an open study space/table. Study space is available on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There is a two-hour time limit for use of study space.
  • Use a textbook on course reserve. There is a two-hour time limit for using reserve textbooks. Textbooks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Beginning on June 26th, library materials can be returned to a book drop located outside the library doors, in the lobby of 624 S. Michigan. The lobby is open Monday-Friday from 7am until 5pm. You do not need an appointment to return materials.

Materials will be isolated for 72 hours after their return before being returned to circulation.

Visitor Guidelines

What you should do when visiting the library:

  • Wear a face covering at all times.
  • Maintain 6 feet distance from the person in front of you whenever possible.
  • Wipe computer keyboards and tables before using.

These guidelines and protocols are in addition to the mandatory training required by the College as well as the daily pre-check before coming to campus. Please visit Reopening Columbia for more information.
