Event Space Request Policy

Due to the increasing number of requests received for use of library space, requests for the third floor of the Library (618 and 624 east) will now be handled through the EMS Web Client and limited to Library approved special events and programs. As much as we would like to accommodate requests received, this policy has been revised to ensure that adequate study and group work space is available while maintaining support of events and programs in our facilities.

Each event request will be reviewed on a case by case basis and must be in line with the Library’s mission and appropriate for the space requested.

The approval of Library space is based on the following criteria:

  • Event/program support of Library mission
  • One-time special event
  • Short-term recurring event which is part of a college-wide initiative
In addition, the following will be taken into consideration during the approval process:
  • Appropriateness of space
  • Sponsor of program
  • Target audience
  • Day/time/duration of event
  • Security issues and catering needs
  • Set up/clean up requirements
Requests must be submitted at least two weeks before the planned event.

Student groups requiring meeting space are encouraged to use The Loft at 916 South Wabash / Floor 4. For more information about The Loft, call the Office of Student Engagement at 312.369.6924.

Requests for exhibition space should be made directly to Kim Hale at khale@colum.edu or 312-369-7355. Requests should include title and description of exhibition, dates and contact information.
